Welcome Back to a Bright 2017

Principal – Mrs Pippen and Associate Principal – Mrs Mason, welcomed new students, staff and returning students and staff at a morning “Welcome” Assembly.  All the students looked fantastic in their uniforms and were happy and smiling.

Mrs Mason demonstrated the story of the “The two Apples ”.  She held up 2 lovely looking red apples and explained how on the outside they looked the same, beautiful, shiny, tasty and pretty ‘cool looking’. She then proceeded to drop one of the apples continually onto the ground so it would bruise on the inside.  She told the students she disliked this apple, thought it was disguising, smelly and generally uncool and that they should not like it either!  When she held up both apples again, the students agreed they looked the same on the outside; BUT, when the two apples were cut open, it was only then the students were able to see the hurt, damage and bruising to the apple which had been dropped and mistreated.

This demonstration showed the students the impact of hurtful words and actions can have on a person and that it is not OK to treat anyone this way.

Students and staff were then presented with “Validation” tickets outlining how truly awesome we all are and to look for the best in people – It can make their day!

This positive start to the year underpins out values as a  Choose Respect School – Working, encouraging and motivating each other to foster a culture of respect.
