Vocational Education & Training (VET)

Our Vocational Education and Training programs [VET] are part of preparing students to enter into the workforce and/or further training after the formal years of schooling.

We currently have Year 11 and 12 students participating in:

  • Certificate I in Automotive Vocational Preparation
  • Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation
  • Certificate I in Conservation and Land Management
  • Certificate I in Construction
  • Certificate I in Hospitality
  • Certificate II in Hospitality

Some students attend TAFE one day a week with support from school staff if required, whilst others receive training at school through an auspicing arrangement.

At present a weekly café enterprise program on site ensures students are well prepared for work in the hospitality industry as they regularly use a commercial coffee machine, electronic till, take orders and handle money.

Senior students also take part in Workplace Learning where they attend work placements off the school grounds. Students are supported in their workplaces but are encouraged to work as independently as possible by staff matching skills, abilities and interests as closely as possible with work placements. Parent involvement is encouraged in sourcing these placements in order to ensure the most successful experience possible for students.

School based traineeships are sought for students demonstrating appropriate attitudes, skills and interest in particular workplaces.

Our ultimate goal in all VET programs offered at Rockingham SHS Education Support Centre is to have each student in the best possible position to move into entry level work and further study once school comes to an end.
